The Jazz Band performs a variety of styles, including big band, swing, funk, blues, and Latin. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 21 is welcome to come and sit in for any rehearsal, even without prior invitation. If you are interested in joining, you may be asked to complete an informal seating audition.
The Jazz Band rehearses year-round on Sundays from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Church (7595 Center Parkway, Sacramento, CA 95823) and is directed by Stephen Bingen.

Stephen Bingen is a senior at Sacramento State majoring in Music Education. Stephen began playing music at the age of 10 when he picked up the trumpet in 5th grade. In his first year of High School he picked up the French Horn but continued to play trumpet in the school jazz band. After leaving community college in 2000, music took a back seat to a 5-year career as a computer technician, although he continued to perform Latin Jazz in various venues throughout California. In 2005, Stephen decided that his true calling was to teach music so he decided to change careers and pursue his goal of enriching the lives of young people through music education.
