Ok - I'll be the first Corinthian Color Guard person after Margie to sign in...
While I was known as Mark's little sister during the 60's, I was drafted in the summer of '70. Being part of SYB from 70 - 75 was so enjoyable and introduced me to what it meant to be a responsible part of a team and to work very hard to achieve goals (including winning the "Class B" Color Guard championship -still a thrill 36 years later!) The friendships formed in those long practices, myriad of bus trips and many performances hold a special place in my heart. SYB also gave me my very first experience with leadership (CG Captain, then Director/Board Member).
I am truly thankful and treasure the memories of long, sweaty practices & sore feet, countless late night coffee shop gatherings coming back from competitions, performing at every small and large town festival in Northern California, finding my "captain voice" , having the most amazing parents (mine and others) model selfless sacrificing for their kids as they served as drivers, candy sellers, hairdressers, equipment repairers, huggers, consolers, and encouragers. (I salute my folks, and the Fergusons, Gaithers, Gurys, Mullens, Yees, Hockings, Laings, and so many others.)
I went on to be part of the JFK Band and Color Guard and marched in the Bicentennial Celebrations in Washington DC and Philadelphia in '76 and then instructed Color Guard for several years afterwards.
