Our purpose in gathering Alumni information is to reconnect to the people who WERE the Sacramento Youth Band, to form an information network, and to build a base of "Band Supporters" to help SYB continue into and through the next 50 years of presenting music to the public, but mostly to offer a fun and educational musical experience to young musicians in the Sacramento Metropolitan Area. Played for the Pope and the presindent, traveled to twenty one countries in culturel exchanges From Brian: Hi my name is Brian and I'm a "bandahollic" I had quit drinking in '83 and moved to Santya Cruz and was in need of a replacement hobby. Luckilly I found the watsonville band in 1987 and was very happy with it's management until the manager retired just after a condutor change. We traveled internationally as did the "comunity band at sea" (band camp on a cruzship for adults) So I got to play at the whitehouse and the vatican as well as others. I still love the sound of music played by a band. The sound of many instruments coming together to form a unique presence is second to none. From Daniel: Band years where a lot of fun for myself and my big brother Thomas. Both Tom and I still live in sacramento. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. To me the best years where when I was Drum Major because I got to see the parade in front of me. Thanks for all the good memories. |

Didn't play for many years and refound all the peace and joy of music. Have been playing quite a bit in the last few years. Time for a new piano. Many thanks Russ, his family, and all the parents who gave the gift of music to us. Other Talents & Experience: Best experience was being able to see Ella Fitzgerald perform. From John: Still play the piano. Took lessons from Russ Kline's mother, Maetta. Have a copy of the Green Album from 1963, and a full color picture from the back of the album. Can copy the album to CD if website would like a copy. Anyone remember the Northern California Tour? (Yreka/Alturas/Ft Bragg, etc) |

I work one day a week as a volunteer for The Blood Source, I play one evening a week with the Sacramento Concert Band and one evening a week with the West Sacramento Community Symphony, twice a year with RCTC and the rest of the time I "fritter away." |

Ask his daughters he also loved to play "Queen" loud early in the morning. From Casey: Casey passed away 2 years ago and will be missed. After checking with his wife, as his sister I am entering some information on his behalf. Casey was in the Navy in submarines during part of the Vietnam Era. Married Shirley Byrnes, they were married for 33 years. They have 3 daughters, Shannan, Holly, and Ariel, and so far 3 granddaughters Alyssa, Dorian, Lily, and a 4th on the way in October or November. All his daughters, were exposed to the Clarinet at some point. Casey and Shirley moved to Woodland, CA. He worked as a Machinest, and as a Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist. He also was a graduate of Yuba College and finished his Junior year at UC Davis. Member of Mensa. Casey loved building radio controlled Model Air Planes and flying them. Was into Animals, Volunteered at the Sac. Zoo. and fed the Hawkes at UC Davis. Loved Reptiles and dogs. He had a green thumb, worked in his garden. He had many hobbies. He enjoyed the SYB Band. Music was a big influence on him. He and his best friend, Norman Papini were always into something. We both took lesson from Russ Kline Music on Franklin Blvd. March in many parades, played in many concerts and generally had a good time. |

I played in a community band 2 seasons several years back. flute, that is. Other Talents & Experience: I've been a practicing hairstylist since 1980. I currently own cool cuts salon in cool, ca. I am a mother to a 6yr old daughter. From mary: I think about SYB... Dad was president, mom co-designed the 1976 iniforms, bill won the directors award, once there was 11 or 12 piccolo players, we won alot of first place awards, so many memories. Russ Kline gave me my first music lesson with my bells. I still have them. I was in the Jr. Band first. There were 5 of us hocking's in the youth band. Mom and dad (Bette & Bob)were much a part of all the fun we had. They are gone, but not forgotten, by all who loved them. |
