Symphonic Band

The Sacramento Youth Band's Symphonic Band has been a fixture in the Sacramento area since 1957, providing a positive experience for young musicians in the Capital Region.

 

Young musicians with 2 or more years of experience are welcome to join. The band is open to experienced musicians up through the age of 21. Those interested in joining are welcome to come sit in and play their instrument during rehearsal.

 

SYB bands practice and perform a diverse selection of music, covering literature from various areas including but not limited to: standard wind band literature, marches, contemporary compositions, entertainment medleys, and orchestral transcriptions for wind band.

 

Members perform concerts each year in Sacramento and other locations throughout California including Reno, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco and as far as Los Angeles. Venues have included Great America, Pier 39, The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and more.

AUDITIONS:

There is no formal audition requirement for SYB bands. Your first two rehearsals sitting in with any of our bands are considered your evaluation period, where you and the director will determine if you are a good fit for the ensemble. SYB members are expected to bring a good work ethic and team spirit to all rehearsals and performances.

The Symphonic Band is open to experienced musicians up through the age of 21. The band plays a variety of concerts each year in locations such as San Francisco, Reno, Santa Cruz, and even Southern California.

The Symphonic Band also practices marching repertoire and marches in a variety of parades. Led by a drum major that usually changes each year, SYB always entertains parade crowds.

Vincent Salvitti - Artistic Director

Vincent Salvitti is a graduate of the Sacramento State University School of Music, recieving a double bachelor in Music Performance (BM) and Music Education (BMUE), with a concentration on trombone. He was nominated for the CBDNA Western/Northwestern Intercollegiate Honor Band in both 2016 and 2018, both times holding principle positions and has won numerous awards thorughout his time as an undergraduate student, including the Sacramento Saturday Club Scholarship, the Sacramento State Marching Band Leadership Scholarship, the Sacramento State Concerto Compertition, Scoring & Arranging Competition, and the Outstanding Musicianship award at the Reno Jazz Festival twice.

Recently, Vincent served as intermittent conductor for the Sacramento Youth Symphony's Classic Orchestra on two separate ocassions. As an AFM Local 12 musician, he is a member of the Sacramento Choral Society Orchestra and has served as a ringer musician for the Sacramento Philharmonic. Currently, Vincent teaches elementary school band at three schools within the South Sacramento area. Alongside his large group instruction, Vincent frequently performs with various ensembles of all kinds and also teaches music privately.
